How is the Open Area sensor powered?

The Density sensor is designed to run easily and securely with standard IT networking equipment. The device is powered using Power over Ethernet (PoE) — specifically using the 802.3af (PoE) standard.

You can also power the device using a 15.4W PoE injector, which provides up to 15.4 watts of power from a standard wall outlet. The injector option can be helpful in the following situations:

  • You don’t have PoE capable switches in your IDF or Network closet
  • You are deploying the devices onto a Wifi or 4G network and don’t intend on running an ethernet cable from the switches in your network closet to each install location
