The Dashboard can show a variety of campuses, buildings, and spaces that make up your portfolio.
Entry sensor hierarchy
At a high level, the hierarchy for Entry sensors can show:
- Campus
-
- Building
-
-
- Floor
-
-
-
-
- Room
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Doorway
-
-
-
Creating a hierarchy
Your hierarchy should follow your deployment plan. For example, an office building with two conference rooms may have sensors installed in the following locations:
A hierarchy to match this example would be:
- Building
-
- Floor
-
-
- Large conference room
-
-
-
-
-
- Doorway one
- Doorway two
-
-
-
-
-
- Small conference room
-
-
-
-
-
- Doorway three
-
-
-
Note: Doorways must be assigned at all levels you want to count. They do not automatically roll up into totals. (e.g., to see the floor total from all conference rooms, every sensor should be added to the floor level). Sensors can be assigned at multiple levels.
For the example floorplan above, if we wanted to count the total number of people in conference rooms on floor one, as well as each room individually, the hierarchy configuration would be:
- Building
-
- Floor one
-
-
- Doorway one
- Doorway two
- Doorway three
-
-
-
-
- Room one
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Doorway one
- Doorway two
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Room two
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Doorway three
-
-
-
Important: It is critical that doorways are correctly configured to either inside the space or outside the space to match the sensor's installation to ensure accurate count. For the floorplan above, if the sensor is inside the conference room being counted, we would assign it inside the space.
If you are assigning sensors to multiple locations (floors, rooms, connecting hallways), it may not be the same orientation each time you assign it (e.g. a sensor installed inside a conference room would be set as inside, but would be configured as outside to count the hallway leading into the room).
Creating spaces
- Log in to dashboard.density.io
- In the top right corner, click the gear icon > Organization settings
- Select the time zone for the location you are adding, and the Default reset time
-
- The Default reset time will bring your count back to zero at the end of the day. It should be set for when the entire building is empty, including after-hours staff
- If you have a 24-hour space, email support@density.io for help setting the resets
- Click Locations from the top menu
- Select Add a campus (one location with multiple buildings) or Add a building based on your deployment
- The following space details are optional, but allow for more reporting options:
-
- Space function: library, retail, gym, etc.
- Meta information: See full help article: Adding meta information to your space
- Time segments: See full help article: How to set up time segments
- Address: to allow reporting based on location
- Doorway mappings allow you to assign sensors to your space. Be sure to check your inside and outside the space assignment is correct for the space you are measuring
-
- Example: If you are looking for building level count, assign all doorways that lead into and out of the building (e.g. main entry, fire exits). Don’t assign sensors attached to rooms without a building exit at the building level (e.g. a conference room on the 3rd floor)
- Click Edit on the doorway to add in additional details like measurements and photos that can help with troubleshooting and calibration
- Click Apply changes
- Click on the building level you just created
- Click Add a floor or Add a space based on your hierarchy
- Repeat steps 6-7 for each location you add. You can continue to add floors and spaces at different levels of your hierarchy by clicking add from the parent location (e.g. all floors go under buildings, all conference rooms are on specific floors)
